With over a quarter of a century in volunteering for non-profit causes, including serving on more than two dozen boards, Rebecca Henderson brings unique and creative insights, as well as a wealth and depth of volunteer experience to her trainings. Rebecca shares experiences that have worked for her and for others. Regardless of what the successful volunteer experiences are, they always capture the philosophy of To Lead is to Serve.
Rebecca's training and facilitation skills are evident in her presentation style. Recruitment and retention of volunteers are her specialties; she has spoken to many groups, including The Performance Institute, a think tank in Washington, D.C. on the topic. Following presentations, those in the audience often report back the successes they have had using Rebecca's insights.
Rebecca implemented a summer office volunteer program at her church, First Christian Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. Larae Thompson, the administrative assistant to the senior minister, said, "Rebecca was single-handedly responsible for compiling and activating approximately 55 volunteers to assist with office responsibilities during the summer. Not only did she locate and recruit the volunteers, she also made sure that when they were working, they were well taken care of. There is not a better person I can think of for the job of recruiting, motivating and appreciating volunteers than Rebecca Henderson."
Rebecca Henderson lives in Johnson City, Tennessee. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Business Administration. Her paid non-profit experience includes serving as Interim Executive Director of the Volunteer Center in Johnson City from mid-1994 until early 1996. During this time, Rebecca did national volunteer consults with The Points of Light Foundation.
Rebecca's non-profit board experience ranges from local to international in scope. Two of her most memorable and noteworthy board experiences are Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council and the Association of Junior Leagues, International. Rebecca was President of the Girl Scout Council; since then, she has chaired their Self-Assessment Task Force as well as their Strategic Planning Task Force. She is currently chairing their Bylaws Review Task Force. While on the AJLI Board, Rebecca was a member of the Constituent Relations and Finance work groups.
Currently, Rebecca Henderson is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Johnson City. She is a founding board member and current secretary of the Children's Advocacy Center of the First Judicial District; she is also on the initial Board of Visitors of the College of Social Work at the University of Tennessee. Rebecca serves on the Leadership Team of her Sunday School Class at First Christian Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. She has written and self-published a book for leadership level volunteers, entitled Absorbed.Like a Sponge! This book is also very helpful for non-profit staff. Rebecca is putting together a series of her prayers and hopes to see them published at some point.
Rebecca loves to read. To date, she has read over 3000 books. She writes book reviews for The Shopping News and Neighbor, a weekly publication in Johnson City, Tennessee. She also pens book reviews for First Ladies, the publication for women in her church, as well as League Life, which is the newsletter for the Junior League of Johnson City.
Something that Rebecca certainly sharing with others, and has received much recognition for, is time management and organizing skills. A former member of the National Association of Professional Organizers, she has been published in that organizations professional journal. She is available for individual consultations.
