BA, Journalism, University of Memphis

After 15+ years as a writer, editor and manager, Karen used her 30+ years of volunteer experience to transition to the non-profit field, where she has been executive director of an arts council, a public relations manager for a residential community for the developmentally disabled, and a volunteer coordinator.

As manager of the Career Support Ministry at a Memphis mega-church for three years, she encouraged, inspired and coached thousands of adults through career transition with weekly seminars, support groups, and one-on-one consultations.

"Karen's compassion, empathy, and sense of humor, as well as her practical knowledge of career transition and job search, helped me through some rough spots in my career search...she is one of the most authentic people I've ever met and brings grace and support to everyone she meets."
- Dannette Haston , Career Support Ministry client

Karen plans to continue her mission of encouraging and inspiring others through To Lead is to Serve , which will help non-profit leaders learn and implement new ways of relating to volunteers; hone their problem-solving skills; recognize defeatist attitudes and turn them into positives; overcome low morale among staff and volunteers; become more productive, and connect more deeply to the organizations's mission and create a more positive environment.

In Spring 2005 Karen launched Energy Visions , a training, writing, and coaching services business based in the Chicagoland area. Her mission is to encourage and inspire others through To Lead is to Serve , which will help non-profit, faith-based, and business leaders experience greater creativity, positive outcomes, and enjoyment.
