Elizabeth O'Connor has over 14 years of experience as a volunteer and a volunteer leader. Her passion is inspiring young people to volunteer and get involved in their communities. "I started volunteering at a very young age", Elizabeth says, "and I loved the sense of fulfillment I got from contributing to volunteer organizations around me. But then I noticed that I was often the youngest person in the group - so I started thinking about ways to attract young people like myself to volunteering. The key is tapping young people's desire to learn, grow, and contribute." As a student at the University of Texas, Elizabeth led many environmental volunteer projects in Austin, Texas, mostly focusing on sharing the joy of volunteering with children and young adults. During her time with the Texas Union Environmental Committee, membership increased 200%, 10 new projects were funded, and the first ongoing environmental project with the greater Austin community was established. For her role on these projects, Elizabeth was honored as the group's Outstanding Environmental Committee Member. Today, Elizabeth works in the high tech industry as a Project Manager and is keenly interested in both the logistics and motivation that create successful volunteer organizations.
