Debbie Macon has been passionate about volunteering and sharing the joy of helping out her entire life. An experienced trainer and facilitator, she works with leaders of nonprofit organizations, elected and appointed officials in volunteer management, developing adult allies of youth, board development and strategic planning.
She is a Program Associate with Trustee Leadership Development, Inc., a national nonprofit leadership education and resource center in Indianapolis, Indiana and is a member of the part-time faculty of Wayne State University's Nonprofit Sector Studies program. Debbie team teaches "Management of Volunteer Programs", a 4 credit course for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Debbie is a 20 year member of the League of Women Voters and served for four years on the National Board of the League of Women Voters of the United States. She is currently serving on the National Volunteerism Task Force of the American Red Cross and is representing the Michigan Community Service Commission as a member of the Kellogg Design Team of Americas Service Commission - charged with creating a leadership development curriculum for governance leaders serving Commissions all across the country. She is a member of the Association for Volunteer Administration (AVA) and the Metropolitan Detroit Volunteer Administration Network (MDVAN), where she serves as Professional Advocacy Chair.
Debbie incorporates the principles of To Lead is to Serve in all of her work. As a self proclaimed 'youth advocate', she believes that adults should model the values, principles and behaviors they wish to see cultivated within youth.
