Leadership tips for new managers and volunteer leaders

My Photo
Name: Shar McBee

Shar McBee is a motivational speaker, a consultant, and the author of two bestselling books. Shar had never received management training when she was suddenly put in charge of supervising 500 people. It was hard. People wouldn't cooperate. They wouldn't do what they were supposed to do. Even worse, they criticized Shar for what she did. Finally, a wise mentor taught Shar a leadership secret. She tried it and it worked amazingly. In business, it made it easy to attract customers. On volunteer projects, it made it very easy to attract volunteers and donations. (In some cases, the increase was as much as 500 %.) Today Shar McBee speaks at about 35 leadership conferences each year. Sharing her secret with new managers and volunteer leaders, Shar has helped over 150,000 people become better leaders. When they learn the Joy of Leadership method, instead of feeling frenzied, being the leader becomes fun.

Can ‘Worry’ Lead to Success?

Joy of Leadership

Worry. Originally, in olde English the word meant
to grab hold of something and shake it to death.
(Much like a dog grabs a rat and shakes it relentlessly.)

Worrying is shaking yourself to death.
Worry blocks creativity.
Only when you stop worrying will you create solutions.

Can worry lead to success?
If you can remain in good spirits, worry will
only bend you and make you stronger.
If it breaks your spirit, you’re dead. – Shar McBee

What’s the Greatest Threat to Your Power?

Joy of Leadership

When you are in a position of power
the greatest threat is your own ego.
The ego is always ready to jump in
and ruin everything.

The ego can make you go too far.
It can make you relax too soon.
It can bring in belligerence.

Abuse of power is immediately recognized
by others. You can’t hide it.
Everyone in leadership faces this situation.

When it happens to you, don’t fight.
Don’t make others wrong and yourself right.
Let your ego calm down, (not get louder.)
If you do, you’ll maintain your power. – Shar McBee

Please Don’t Fall for This

Joy of Leadership

People are using this crisis to prey on the fears of others.
Ads and emails arrive everyday, claiming:
“Your financial survival depends on this.”
“Don’t walk the plank to failure.”
“You need to buy from me, immediately.”

When people push you, it means they are afraid.
Please don’t fall for this.
Fire and water never mingle.
It is the same with clarity and worry. – Shar McBee

When Will Your Organization Grow?

Joy of Leadership

If you are the one who always serves,
but you don’t allow others to serve,
you are denying people the possibility
of being in service.

Let others assume responsibility.
Let them offer their talents.
You have to learn to let go.
When you do, your organization will grow.
