Leadership tips for new managers and volunteer leaders

My Photo
Name: Shar McBee

Shar McBee is a motivational speaker, a consultant, and the author of two bestselling books. Shar had never received management training when she was suddenly put in charge of supervising 500 people. It was hard. People wouldn't cooperate. They wouldn't do what they were supposed to do. Even worse, they criticized Shar for what she did. Finally, a wise mentor taught Shar a leadership secret. She tried it and it worked amazingly. In business, it made it easy to attract customers. On volunteer projects, it made it very easy to attract volunteers and donations. (In some cases, the increase was as much as 500 %.) Today Shar McBee speaks at about 35 leadership conferences each year. Sharing her secret with new managers and volunteer leaders, Shar has helped over 150,000 people become better leaders. When they learn the Joy of Leadership method, instead of feeling frenzied, being the leader becomes fun.

Why give away Your Power?

When you are with people who have more authority,
do you give away your power?

Yesterday I met with a top executive at one of
the world’s largest corporations.
On a subtle level I felt myself trying to impress him.

To relate to people with power is a balancing act.
You must give them respect, and at the same time
retain your independence and dignity.
Keep your composure.
Focus on the needs of the moment.
And never give away your power. – Shar McBee

When People Resist You

Even if our motive is good,
when we obstinately push for results,
we create resistance.

I did this yesterday.
Today, I am sorry and want to make it “right.”
I can’t.

Anything I say will create more resistance.
Today I have to hold back
and let it run its course. – Shar McBee

A Peaceful Perspective

Don’t worry. Be open.
Don’t be defensive.
Don’t try to manipulate events.

Older and wiser people than us have
lived through these downturns.
If you remain calm, a rough patch
can be a time of transformation.

How to Make a Lasting Impact

I’ve been working on a project that is
taking a long time to come to fruition.
Too long for my ego.

Yesterday I was wondering what good
it does to become impatient.
There is a law of natural development.

Do I want to be a weed or a tree?
You don’t make an impact if you become agitated.
Or force a conclusion because you lose patience.

To make an impact, you must persevere even
in slow times when it looks like you
are making no progress. – Shar McBee

P.S. Could your team use some motivation?
A conference call with Shar McBee will
rejuvenate you.
