Leadership tips for new managers and volunteer leaders

My Photo
Name: Shar McBee

Shar McBee is a motivational speaker, a consultant, and the author of two bestselling books. Shar had never received management training when she was suddenly put in charge of supervising 500 people. It was hard. People wouldn't cooperate. They wouldn't do what they were supposed to do. Even worse, they criticized Shar for what she did. Finally, a wise mentor taught Shar a leadership secret. She tried it and it worked amazingly. In business, it made it easy to attract customers. On volunteer projects, it made it very easy to attract volunteers and donations. (In some cases, the increase was as much as 500 %.) Today Shar McBee speaks at about 35 leadership conferences each year. Sharing her secret with new managers and volunteer leaders, Shar has helped over 150,000 people become better leaders. When they learn the Joy of Leadership method, instead of feeling frenzied, being the leader becomes fun.

Pretense

Leadership is like living in a glass house.
When we project an image or act in a
way that isn’t true, everyone can see it.

When we pretend, people perceive our
weakness and exploit it. – Shar McBee

How to Survive Adverse Situations

When you feel like you are being held down
by fools and less capable people,
take heart.
There is a way out.

If you let an adverse situation break you,
you’ll never succeed.
But if it only bends you,
you’ll be more powerful in the future.

Remain cheerful. Keep smiling.
And keep quiet. This isn’t your time.
But don’t give up.
If you remain true to yourself,
you’ll build inner power that will
be useful in the future. – Shar McBee

How to Receive More

To receive, first you give a little. Then wait.
Allow something to come back.
Most of us give, then because we are invested,
keep giving and giving and giving.

If you are going to last as a leader,
you must be able to give and receive.

With a new staff person, give a little
responsibility, then wait and watch.
What does that person give in return?

To receive more, wait more.
Don’t waste yourself on people who
don’t give back. – Shar McBee
