Leadership tips for new managers and volunteer leaders

My Photo
Name: Shar McBee

Shar McBee is a motivational speaker, a consultant, and the author of two bestselling books. Shar had never received management training when she was suddenly put in charge of supervising 500 people. It was hard. People wouldn't cooperate. They wouldn't do what they were supposed to do. Even worse, they criticized Shar for what she did. Finally, a wise mentor taught Shar a leadership secret. She tried it and it worked amazingly. In business, it made it easy to attract customers. On volunteer projects, it made it very easy to attract volunteers and donations. (In some cases, the increase was as much as 500 %.) Today Shar McBee speaks at about 35 leadership conferences each year. Sharing her secret with new managers and volunteer leaders, Shar has helped over 150,000 people become better leaders. When they learn the Joy of Leadership method, instead of feeling frenzied, being the leader becomes fun.

How to Make the Most of Your Potential

Everything happens twice.
First in your mind. Then in your life.
And there’s one more thing.

Ideas need action.
How many goals have you written
and not acted on?
The word “satisfaction” ends in action.
The word “attraction” ends in action.

If you are going to attract satisfaction,
you must take action. – Shar McBee

What does it take to Succeed?

Monday, I spoke to the National Assn.of Pediatric Nurses
on The Joy of Leadership for Chapter Presidents.
Afterwards, a young nurse told me this story:

Her responsibility is to care for sick babies.
The system was burying her with paperwork.
Her supervisor had a plan to reduce the load.

But she couldn’t wait.
She had allowed the stress to get to her.
She interfered and ruined her supervisor’s plan.
She said, “Now it is going to take a long time
to resolve this issue.”

Even when we know we are right,
over-reacting to opportunities or
jumping the gun won’t bring success.
It takes confidence to succeed.
It also takes time. – Shar McBee

When to Stop a Conflict

Sometimes, in a conflict, we make
decisions just to escape the pressure
or the ambiguity.

A decision made in the midst of
conflict is rarely a good decision.
The best time to stop a conflict
is at the beginning.

Once you are embroiled,
stop trying to prove you are right.
Stop rationalizing.
Drop the issue.
Wait for clarity.
Then make your decision. – Shar McBee

Loyalty – How to Earn It

No law or rule can guarantee loyalty.
You can’t contrive or force it.
You can’t buy it.

When the boss abandons what is good
and expects people to follow,
the staff becomes resentful.

The only way to earn loyalty from others
is to be loyal and true to the good within you.
