Leadership tips for new managers and volunteer leaders

My Photo
Name: Shar McBee

Shar McBee is a motivational speaker, a consultant, and the author of two bestselling books. Shar had never received management training when she was suddenly put in charge of supervising 500 people. It was hard. People wouldn't cooperate. They wouldn't do what they were supposed to do. Even worse, they criticized Shar for what she did. Finally, a wise mentor taught Shar a leadership secret. She tried it and it worked amazingly. In business, it made it easy to attract customers. On volunteer projects, it made it very easy to attract volunteers and donations. (In some cases, the increase was as much as 500 %.) Today Shar McBee speaks at about 35 leadership conferences each year. Sharing her secret with new managers and volunteer leaders, Shar has helped over 150,000 people become better leaders. When they learn the Joy of Leadership method, instead of feeling frenzied, being the leader becomes fun.

Reaching Your High Goals

Joy of Leadership

To set your highest goals,
ask yourself this question:
If this were your last year to live,
how would you live it?

To reach your highest goals,
follow the example of water.

When water comes to a rock,
it flows around it.

When it arrives at a precipice,
it goes right over the cliff.

When it encounters a hole,
it waits; fills up the gap
and then moves on.

This year, I hope you’ll be
like water – Refreshed.
On the way to your destination
and after you have arrived.

Happy New Year – Shar McBee

Small Things Make a Big Difference

Joy of Leadership

Our church choir was having trouble hitting the high
notes, so we invited a voice coach to work with us.
Our pastor decided to publicize it on the church sign.

The announcement was to read, “Learn to sing.”
I volunteered to put up the letters, but It was only
partially spelled out when my cell phone rang.
I walked behind the church to get better reception.

When I returned, I discovered a group of laughing
teenagers pointing at the sign. It read,
“Merry Christmas. Learn to sin.”

How to Win Allegiance

Joy of Leadership

If you don’t focus on
someone’s bad side,

you will win the allegiance
of their good side.

Last week, 435 of you
responded to my question.
(What to do about the woman who
had been mean to me, then sought my
friendship after she was fired?)

Thank you so much!
This week’s message is my attempt
to summarize your great advice.

Hope it is helpful.
You were very
helpful to me. – Shar McBee

What to Do?

Joy of Leadership

You open yourself to someone
who doesn't respond.
What do you do?

A woman considered herself
“above” me. She never
had time for me.

Then she was fired.
Suddenly she wants to be
my confidant
What should I do?

If you have time,
let me know your thoughts.
