When People Upset You

	First, pride arises. This causes you to resist asking for help. You feel abandoned by fate and other folks. Everything is against you. Unable to wait, you jump for any solution. Sound familiar? This happened to me yesterday. When people upset you, hold your horses. Don’t act just to relieve the pressure. Wait, calm down and watch what happens. It may be a powerful turning point. You are probably not abandoned. The Best Way Out of a Conflict

	Last week I spoke at a conference on the topic of “How to use what you’ve got to get what you need.” I have a method which has worked for people everywhere. But last week, a woman in the audience was certain that it wouldn’t work for her. I was certain that it would. Hence, a conflict. Henry Ford said, “If you think you can or you think you can’t – you are right.” She was certain she couldn’t. My first thought was to try to convince her she could. I wanted to win her over to my point of view. This doesn’t work. It makes people into your adversary. Position creates opposition. My second thought was to give her up as hopeless. I wanted to get out of a disagreeable situation. This doesn’t work, either, because it makes a future relationship difficult. When we feel pressure – When we feel conflict – The best thing to do it to be gentle. Don’t break your ties with people. Don’t give up on them. Be gentle on them. Be gentle on yourself, too, for not knowing what to do. If you get caught by a bear, the best way out is to be gentle. If you are emotionally entrapped, or in conflict with people, it’s similar. Enthusiasm

	True enthusiasm is extremely attractive. True enthusiasm makes it possible to rally people who might otherwise be indifferent. False enthusiasm makes you think you have to be the hero or the star.
