This week, I submitted two chapters of my new book for review by my writers group. Nine people were positive. One sliced it to smithereens.
The criticism felt like salt in a wound. She said it was shallow. She compared it to gravy, without the meat. “Stretched a bit thin,” she proclaimed.
I was still hurting the next day. Then I remembered some advice that I had once received.
It was a time when I had engaged a singer to perform at an event I was organizing. I thought the singer had the voice of an angel but a few people criticized him harshly. The ridicule hurt until I received this advice, which put it into perspective – You can throw mud on a diamond, but it is still a diamond. – Shar McBee
